Profile
OVERVIEW
Kokokahi Gymnastics Team (KGT) is Hawaii’s oldest private gymnastics school, founded in 1969 as a class within the Kokokahi YWCA in Kaneohe. As enrollment grew, the KGT Association was formed by dedicated parents in 1971, and the organization was formally incorporated as a non-profit in 1978. In 1983, KGT relocated to its present facility at 45-558 Kamehameha Highway in Kaneohe — on the windward side of Oahu — and has operated there for over 40 years. Today the gym is recognized as the largest private gymnastics facility in Hawaii at 7,800 square feet, featuring a full-size spring floor, a foam-filled training pit, and apparatus for all women’s gymnastics events including vault, bars, beam, and floor.
True to its roots, KGT remains a non-profit, parent-owned, and parent-operated organization — one of the very few gymnastics facilities of its kind anywhere in the United States. KGT’s mission is to develop each athlete’s physical strength and mind to enhance self-confidence, self-esteem, discipline, and personal character through the sport of gymnastics, all within a safe Koko ‘Ohana (family) environment. Competitive teams compete in USAG Junior Olympic Levels 3 through 10 and Xcel Silver through Xcel Diamond. The gym also hosts the annual Halloween Classic and the Aloha Gymfest — the 50th Annual edition of which is scheduled for January 2026, one of the most prestigious gymnastics invitationals in the state of Hawaii.
THE GYM
The 7,800-square-foot Kamehameha Highway facility is the cornerstone of windward Oahu gymnastics. With a full-size spring floor, foam training pit, and the full complement of women’s Olympic gymnastics apparatus, KGT provides a complete training environment for athletes from toddlers through Level 10. The gym offers wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance, open gym sessions, adult gymnastics classes, birthday parties, school break camps, clinics, and Parents’ Night Out events throughout the year. Virtual training and skill class subscriptions are also available through the KGT website.
PROGRAMS
Toddler and Gymmini Classes
Classes begin at 12 months with co-ed toddler gymnastics, progressing through the Gymmini program for slightly older preschoolers. These classes establish foundational movement, coordination, and gymnastics awareness in a safe, supportive setting that introduces young children to the Koko ‘Ohana culture from day one.
Recreational Gymnastics
Girls’ recreational levels from Level 1 through Pre-Team provide a structured skill progression covering all Olympic gymnastics events. Students advance based on skill mastery, with the Pre-Team level serving as the gateway to the competitive program.
Adult Gymnastics
KGT maintains an adult gymnastics class, providing one of the rare opportunities in Hawaii for adults to pursue structured gymnastics instruction in a supportive, appropriately-paced environment.
Competitive Team
The KGT competitive team competes in USAG Junior Olympic Levels 3 through 10 and Xcel Silver through Xcel Diamond, competing at state, regional (Region 2), and national levels. KGT also hosts the annual Halloween Classic and the Aloha Gymfest invitational, two of Hawaii’s most celebrated gymnastics competitions.
