Hawaiian Island Twisters

OVERVIEW

Hawaiian Island Twisters (HITS) is a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit gymnastics organization established in 1996 and one of the most competitive gymnastics programs in the state of Hawaii. Located at 735 Iwilei Road in Honolulu, HITS offers recreational and competitive gymnastics for girls and boys ages 18 months through 18 years from a state-of-the-art facility in the Iwilei district of central Honolulu. The gym’s mission is to nurture athletes of all ages and skill levels in an ideal environment where experienced coaching staff, a supportive community, and personalized instruction combine to help every gymnast learn, grow, and excel — whether as a beginner discovering gymnastics for the first time or as an advanced competitor pursuing the highest levels of the sport.

HITS is a USAG member club and is the annual host of Gymnastics in Paradise, Hawaii’s premier gymnastics invitational, which draws clubs from across the USAG Region 2 states and internationally each January. In addition to hosting competitions, HITS fields Junior Olympic and Xcel competitive teams that compete at the state, regional, and national levels, consistently ranking among Hawaii’s top programs.

THE GYM

The Iwilei Road facility is a modern, well-equipped gymnastics center in the heart of Honolulu. HITS provides a full complement of gymnastics training apparatus for both men’s and women’s programs, with an experienced coaching staff that brings a high level of technical knowledge to every class from preschool through the competitive team. The gym is open six days a week with morning and afternoon class sessions and offers a wide range of programming throughout the year.

PROGRAMS

Parent-Tot and Preschool Gymnastics

Classes begin at 18 months with Parent-Tot, moving to preschool gymnastics as children develop readiness for instructor-led group classes. Students in these earliest programs advance based on age and readiness rather than a fixed skill test schedule, with coaches and parent feedback guiding the transition to the next level.

Recreational Gymnastics (Girls and Boys)

Girls’ classes from Beginners I through Advanced and boys’ classes from Beginners through Advanced are tested quarterly, ensuring regular skill progression assessments and a clear advancement pathway. Tumbling classes complement the standard gymnastics curriculum for students wishing to develop floor and aerial skills independently.

Competitive Team

HITS fields one of Hawaii’s most competitive USAG teams, competing at the state, regional (Region 2), and national levels. HITS also hosts the annual Gymnastics in Paradise invitational, one of the most anticipated events on the Region 2 gymnastics calendar each season.
