OVERVIEW

Technique Gymnastics is Sacramento’s premier children’s gymnastics facility, founded in 1992 and operating from its 38,000-square-foot home at 11345 Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova since opening in August 1996 as one of the West Coast’s largest gymnastics centers. Home to one of the largest competitive teams in California, Technique serves children from crawling age through 18 years with a comprehensive range of gymnastics, acrobatics, tumbling, trampoline, and ninja programs. The gym was founded by Jim and Alice Welch and passed to new ownership under Jeff Gimbel in 2024, who continues their legacy of excellence.

Technique’s philosophy centers on developing not just strong gymnasts but happy, healthy, responsible young people. The gym uses the Character Counts program in its curriculum to reinforce positive character development alongside athletic skill building. With eight bars, eight balance beams, two floor areas, multiple trampolines, a tumble track, and several foam pits, the facility is among the most comprehensively equipped gymnastics centers in Northern California.

THE GYM

The 38,000-square-foot Rancho Cordova facility is located on Folsom Boulevard just 15 miles northeast of downtown Sacramento. The vast facility size provides dedicated space for both the recreational class program and the competitive team program, allowing both to operate simultaneously without crowding. Technique’s competitive program includes girls’ and boys’ artistic gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics teams, and trampoline and tumbling at levels spanning USAG Levels 3 through 10. The gym is one of the most prominent NorCal member clubs and hosts the Xcel Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Sapphire State Championships each year.

PROGRAMS

Preschool and Kinder Classes

Classes begin at crawling age with parent-participation programs and progress through preschool-level gymnastics for children up to 5 years old. The Kinder Gym program provides a structured and age-appropriate gymnastics introduction with smaller class sizes and a nurturing coaching approach.

Recreational Gymnastics

Girls’ and boys’ classes are available for all skill levels from ages 6 through 18. The girls’ program features dedicated class space with eight bars and eight beams alongside floor, vault, and trampoline areas. The boys’ program covers all six Olympic events. Students earn level certificates as they progress through the curriculum.

Competitive Teams

Technique’s competitive program is one of the largest in California, fielding girls’ and boys’ artistic teams, Acro teams, and a Trampoline and Tumbling team at levels from 3 through 10. The gym hosts the Xcel Gold through Sapphire State Championships annually and is recognized as one of NorCal’s premier competitive programs.

Ninja Gym and Camps

Ninja Gym classes and seasonal camps are offered throughout the year, along with holiday break programs and birthday party packages. Special events like Halloween and Royal Tea Party events are regular community offerings.
