OVERVIEW
One of Anchorage’s most established gymnastics facilities, Arctic Gymnastics has been serving the community since opening its doors in 1988. Owned and operated by Dan Alch and his team of experienced coaches, Arctic Gymnastics is a USAG-registered club dedicated to developing athletes of all ages and skill levels, from toddlers discovering movement for the first time to competitive gymnasts preparing for college careers.
The gym operates under a guiding principle that has defined its culture from the very beginning: “We celebrate success on every level.” This philosophy means that a child’s first cartwheel is given the same recognition and pride as an advanced competitive skill. Growth is measured in small successes, and every athlete is encouraged to take pride in each one.
THE GYM
Arctic Gymnastics is proud to be one of Anchorage’s most trusted and longest-running gymnastics programs, offering a welcoming and professional environment where athletes can grow, compete, and thrive at every stage of their gymnastics journey.
The facility spans 15,000 square feet and features a full range of professional gymnastics equipment, including a spring floor, balance beam, uneven bars, vault, pit, trampoline, tumble track, and various types of mats. Both recreational and competitive athletes train on the same high-quality equipment, giving every gymnast access to a world-class training environment.
The coaching staff at Arctic Gymnastics is known for its depth of knowledge and its ability to work with athletes across every level, from beginners in the recreational program to gymnasts competing at the collegiate level. Coaches bring a family spirit to every program, creating an atmosphere of healthy competition and genuine encouragement.
Arctic Gymnastics athletes have competed and won at the state, regional, and national levels. The gym is proud of its history of preparing successful NCAA competitors who have gone on to attend nationally ranked universities across the country.
Arctic Gymnastics is a welcoming place for the whole family. With programs ranging from preschool classes to adult recreational gymnastics, after-school care, open gym, camps, and birthday parties, the facility is designed to serve the community at every age and stage.
PROGRAMS AT THE GYM
Recreational Gymnastics
Arctic Gymnastics offers recreational gymnastics programs for children and adults who want to learn basic gymnastics skills while keeping fit, building strength, and improving flexibility. Classes are available to suit any age and skill level, with no interest in competition required.
Recreational gymnasts train on the same equipment used by the competitive team, including the spring floor, balance beam, uneven bars, vault, pit, trampoline, and various mats. Class levels are structured progressively, beginning with foundational skills and advancing through more technical gymnastics work as each athlete develops. Classes include Preschool Gymnastics for ages 0 to 4, Recreational Gymnastics for ages 5 and up, and Coed Tumbling for ages 7 and up.

Preschool Gymnastics
Arctic’s preschool program is built around the philosophy of creative play, with a curriculum designed to promote the maximum development of each child. The program provides a safe and nurturing environment that supports the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of young children.
Classes are designed for children ages 0 to 4 and focus on building early movement skills, coordination, and confidence in a supportive and engaging setting. The preschool program is a wonderful introduction to structured physical activity for the youngest members of the community.
Competitive Team
Arctic Gymnastics offers a competitive gymnastics program that begins at Pre-Team and Level 1, where gymnasts learn the foundational skills that prepare them for competition. The program continues through Level 10, where experienced gymnasts prepare for college careers in the sport.
Levels 2 through 5 include compulsory competitions held within Alaska throughout the competitive season. Levels 6 through 10 compete in optional competitions, including out-of-state travel. Participation in the competitive program requires membership in Alaska Olympic Gymnastics. Entry onto the competitive team is by invitation, and coaches encourage beginners to start in the recreational program.
After-School Program
Arctic Gymnastics offers a well-regarded after-school program that includes school pickup, supervised activity time in the gym, and a structured environment for children to stay active and engaged after the school day. The program is a convenient and reliable option for working families in the Anchorage area.
Children in the after-school program have access to the full facility, including open gym time on trampolines, the foam pit, and the tumble track. The program runs during the regular school year and has earned a loyal following among Anchorage families.
Camps
Arctic Gymnastics offers summer camps for students completing grades 1 through 6 during the Anchorage School District summer break. Camps are designed to support children’s physical development while providing a high-energy and engaging experience in the gym’s 15,000 square foot facility.
Holiday and inservice day camps are also available throughout the school year, giving families a trusted option for childcare and activity during school closures. All camps are supervised by the Arctic Gymnastics coaching staff.
Birthday Parties and Open Gym
Arctic Gymnastics offers birthday party packages that make use of the full facility, providing a fun and active celebration for children of all ages. Parties are supervised by staff and give kids the run of the equipment for a truly memorable experience.
Open gym sessions are also available, offering drop-in access to the facility for recreational use. Open gym is a great option for families looking for an affordable and active outing, with access to trampolines, the foam pit, and the tumble track.
