OVERVIEW
Southeast Alaska Gymnastics Academy, known as SAGA, is Juneau’s primary gymnastics facility and the hub for gymnastics development in Southeast Alaska. Founded as a small after-school group in the local schools, SAGA has grown into a full-service gymnastics club offering recreational and competitive programs for athletes ages 18 months through adult.
SAGA is a USAG member club operating under the ownership of Beth Landvatter and the head coaching leadership of Alexis Howard, who has guided the program since 2012. The academy is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and skill-building environment for all participants, from the youngest toddlers to competitive athletes who travel to regional meets.
THE GYM
Southeast Alaska Gymnastics Academy operates its facility on Tongass Boulevard in Juneau, providing the community with access to quality gymnastics instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. The gym serves a wide range of participants, from toddlers in parent-and-me classes to competitive team athletes who participate in USAG-sanctioned meets.
SAGA’s competitive team has a history of traveling to out-of-state competitions, including meets in Hawaii, giving athletes in Southeast Alaska opportunities to compete at a broader regional level. The academy is committed to developing well-rounded athletes who grow in skill, confidence, and sportsmanship throughout their time with the program.
As the primary gymnastics facility in Juneau, SAGA serves a vital role in the community, providing physical activity and athletic development programming for families across the Southeast Alaska region.
PROGRAMS AT THE GYM
Recreational Gymnastics
SAGA offers recreational gymnastics classes for girls and boys at beginner and intermediate levels. Classes are available for a wide range of ages, with co-ed preschool classes available on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Recreational classes focus on building foundational gymnastics skills in a fun and age-appropriate setting.

Parent and Me Classes
SAGA offers parent-and-me classes for toddlers beginning at 18 months, providing a shared gymnastics experience for parents and young children. These classes introduce the youngest participants to movement, coordination, and structured physical activity in a nurturing and supportive setting.
Girls Competitive Team
SAGA’s girls competitive team competes under the USAG Junior Olympic program at Compulsory Levels 2 through 6 and beyond. The team trains year-round and participates in USAG-sanctioned competitions, including travel meets. Entry onto the competitive team is by invitation based on coach evaluation.
Toddler and Adult Open Gym
SAGA offers Toddler Open Gym on Wednesday mornings from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, providing an unstructured active play session for young children. Adult Open Gym is also available for adults interested in recreational gymnastics activity. Pre-registration is required for all open gym sessions.
Birthday Party Rentals
SAGA offers birthday party rentals on Saturday afternoons from 12:45 PM to 2:15 PM, providing families with an active and memorable celebration option in the gym facility. Rental availability is subject to scheduling and advance booking is recommended.
