Golden Bear Gymnastics

OVERVIEW

Golden Bear Gymnastics provides gymnastics instruction from the Clark Kerr Campus of UC Berkeley, operating at 25 Sports Lane in a facility that is among the most unique gymnastics settings in the Bay Area. Founded in 1977 and currently the longest-running gymnastics program on the UC Berkeley campus, Golden Bear serves children from 18 months through 18 years with year-round recreational classes, competitive team training, summer camps, open gym, and Parents Night Out events. The program is well-regarded throughout the Bay Area gymnastics community for its skilled coaching staff and positive, goal-oriented approach.

Golden Bear is consistently recognized among the top programs in NorCal. In the 2024-2025 competitive season, Berkeley placed first overall in the NorCal Xcel program, reflecting the quality and depth of the gym’s competitive teams. The program has produced athletes who have competed at the state and national level for decades.

THE GYM

Located at 25 Sports Lane on the UC Berkeley Clark Kerr Campus, Golden Bear operates in a beautiful setting adjacent to UC Berkeley’s athletic facilities. The gym features full gymnastics apparatus for both recreational and competitive training. All coaches are CPR/AED and First Aid certified and are specifically trained in gymnastics instruction. The competitive teams compete in USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic and Xcel programs, and the gym participates in TOPs Testing for young developing athletes.

PROGRAMS

Parent-and-Tot and Preschool Classes

Bear Cubs Open Gym provides free-play sessions for children 4 and under, with parent involvement encouraged. Preschool classes are available for boys and girls separated by age and ability, with structured gymnastics activities aligned to developmental milestones.

Recreational and Boys Classes

School-age recreational classes include beginner through advanced levels for girls, and dedicated boys’ classes covering the six Olympic men’s events are available year-round. Special needs classes are also offered as part of Golden Bear’s commitment to inclusive gymnastics instruction.

Competitive Team

The competitive program spans USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic and Xcel levels, with Golden Bear placing first in the Overall NorCal Xcel Program in 2024-2025. TOPs Testing is available for young athletes interested in the USA Gymnastics developmental pipeline.

Monday through Friday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Sunday: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
