Profile
OVERVIEW
Rising Star Gymnastics Training Center has served Monterey County youth since 1982, when founder Kathleen Brady established the program at Sunset Center in Carmel after operating gymnastics schools and camps in the region since 1971. In 2001, the program relocated to a larger space on Del Monte Avenue in Monterey, where it continues to operate today at 2024 Del Monte Avenue under the ownership of Kelly Brady-Favaloro, Kathleen’s daughter, who took over in 2015. Kelly holds a B.S. in Human Development from UC Davis, competed in gymnastics through JO Level 9, and has coached numerous state and regional champions in the Junior Olympic and Xcel programs, as well as several TOPS Diamond Team members and national testing qualifiers.
Rising Star was recognized as the best Gymnastics Center in Monterey County by Monterey Bay Parent Magazine Family Favorites in both 2019 and 2020, and Kelly Brady-Favaloro received the KSBW Salute to Small Business Award for best Woman-Owned Business. The gym’s mission is to provide quality gymnastics instruction in both a fun and safe environment, with the belief that every child, regardless of ability, deserves the best instruction possible.
THE GYM
The Del Monte Avenue facility is a modern, fully equipped gymnastics center in central Monterey providing training space for all programs. Coaches include credentialed gymnastics professionals — including Coach Breeze, a former Brazilian national team member and Elite gymnast who has coached since 1992, and Coach Evin, a parkour/free running specialist. The gym runs birthday parties, seasonal camps, and regular classes throughout the year, and its NinjaZone program has been well received by families seeking a parkour-inspired complement to traditional gymnastics.
PROGRAMS
Parent-Tot, Preschool, and Recreational Classes
Rising Star offers classes from parent-tot gymnastics for the youngest students through recreational classes for girls and boys up to 18 years old. Junior Camps serve ages 3 through 5, and full-day Summer Camps run for ages 5 through 12 during school breaks. All programs are structured to build confidence, balance, strength, and lasting friendships in a welcoming environment.
Competitive Team
The competitive team program competes in the NorCal Junior Olympic and Xcel circuits, with a coaching track record that includes state and regional champions as well as TOPS Diamond Team members. Team placement is by coach evaluation and invitation.
NinjaZone, Sports Agility, and Tumbling
NinjaZone classes bring obstacle-based movement training and parkour fundamentals into the gym alongside sports agility classes and traditional tumbling instruction, giving Monterey County families a broad range of movement-based class options under one roof.
