Diablo Gymnastics School

OVERVIEW

Diablo Gymnastics School has been a cornerstone of the Contra Costa County gymnastics community since its founding in 1966, making it one of the oldest continuously operating gymnastics programs in Northern California. Founded by Jim Gault as a small program sponsored by the Pleasant Hill Park and Recreation Department, Diablo outgrew a series of East Bay locations before settling permanently in San Ramon in 1978 — growing from 200 students to more than a thousand students per week over the decades since. In 2016 the school celebrated its 50th anniversary, a milestone that reflects the enduring commitment of its ownership and coaching staff to the community they serve.

Located at 2411 Old Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon, Diablo operates out of a fully equipped 10,000-square-foot facility and serves students from age two through high school in preschool gymnastics, recreational classes for boys and girls, competitive teams, day camps, summer camps, and special events including the semi-annual Flip Flop Follies showcase and the in-house Diablo Olympics.

THE GYM

The Old Crow Canyon Road facility features two viewing areas so parents can watch from different angles, two in-ground foam pits, a 40-foot Tumble Track, two spring floor exercise areas, a full-size trampoline, two sets of uneven bars, quad bars, strap bars, stall bars, high and low balance beams, a vaulting runway, and a well-stocked pro shop. Diablo hosts competitive meets for the region and is a NorCal member club in the USAG Junior Olympic and Xcel programs. The gym has long been a hub of Tri-Valley gymnastics and counts San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, and Walnut Creek families among its core constituency.

PROGRAMS

Sweet Peas (Preschool)

Sweet Peas classes offer movement education and gymnastics basics for children ages two through six, developing power, grace, strength, flexibility, and confidence in a structured and nurturing environment. The program feeds naturally into the recreational class track for school-age students.

Recreational Classes for Girls and Boys

Weekly classes for school-age students cover all four women’s events and all six men’s events, progressing through skill-based levels aligned with USA Gymnastics standards. Students from kindergarten through high school are served, making Diablo one of the more comprehensive recreational programs in the Tri-Valley.

Competitive Team, Camps, and Special Events

Diablo fields competitive teams in the NorCal Junior Olympic and Xcel programs, building on a coaching tradition that has produced regionally recognized athletes across multiple decades. Day camps and week-long summer camps provide gymnastics instruction during school breaks, and the semi-annual Flip Flop Follies showcase and the annual Diablo Olympics provide performance and celebration opportunities for all students.
