Lighthouse Sports Center - Whittier

OVERVIEW

Lighthouse Sports Center (LSC) in Whittier has been a cornerstone of youth athletics in the greater Southeast Los Angeles area since its founding in 2003 — originally known as Lighthouse Gymnastics Academy (LGA). Located at 13003 Whittier Boulevard in Whittier, just minutes from Historic Uptown Whittier, LSC grew from a series of recreational gymnastics classes offered through local parks and recreation departments into a full multi-sport center now offering more than 100 classes per week in gymnastics, cheer, tumbling, dance, martial arts, and ninja. The gym serves the cities of Whittier, La Habra, Montebello, Pico Rivera, La Mirada, and Norwalk, and provides classes through parks and recreation programs for all six of those cities — over 50 classes through city programs alone.

Lighthouse Sports Center is a SoCal member club and USA Gymnastics member, fielding Junior Olympic and Xcel competitive gymnastics teams. Facility Director Nathaniel Freund has led LSC since its 2016 ownership transition, maintaining the original staff and competitive gymnastics program through the change and growing the multi-sport offering substantially. The gym is open seven days a week and serves students from walking through age 18.

THE GYM

LSC’s primary Whittier Boulevard location is a 7,000-square-foot multi-sport facility designed to serve a wide community of youth athletes across gymnastics and several complementary disciplines. The gym operates seven days a week across all of its programs, with the gymnastics program at the heart of the schedule. Birthday parties and seasonal camps are offered throughout the year. A second location in the Downey area (14208 Mulberry Drive) extends LSC’s reach to families in the Norwalk, La Mirada, Bellflower, and Santa Fe Springs communities.

PROGRAMS

Gymnastics (Girls and Boys)

The gymnastics program offers toddler, preschool, beginner, and intermediate classes for girls and boys from walking through the teen years. Xcel and Junior Olympic competitive teams provide a structured competitive pathway for athletes identified by coaching staff. The gym’s 20+ year history in the community gives LSC’s gymnastics program one of the longest uninterrupted track records in the Southeast LA area.

Ninja, Cheer, Dance, and Martial Arts

LSC’s multi-sport programming covers ninja gymnastics for boys, cheerleading, dance (multiple styles), and martial arts — each available at multiple levels for different age groups. This breadth of offerings makes LSC a one-stop destination for youth athletics across a wide range of disciplines.
