Profile
OVERVIEW
Aberdeen Gymnastics Association is located at 4745 6th Avenue SE, Suite 2 in Aberdeen — across the highway from the Aberdeen Regional Airport on the southeast side of the city — an independent non-profit organization dedicated to expanding gymnastics in the north-central South Dakota region. Aberdeen is South Dakota’s third-largest city, home to Northern State University and Presentation College and serving as the commercial hub for a vast agricultural region spanning Brown, Spink, and surrounding counties. AGA operates as a community-first program: the gym follows its own weather cancellation policy independent of any school district, makes cancellation decisions on a case-by-case basis with announcements by 3:30 PM on Facebook, and charges a $30 annual per-athlete registration fee to cover liability insurance costs — a transparent and affordable membership model for the Aberdeen family community.
AGA has a dedicated boys-only class called Onyx, and openly welcomes boys in all other classes and camps as well — a commitment the organization specifically highlights as reflecting its responsive approach to community needs. The competitive team has been in operation for three-plus years and competes within the USAG upper Midwest region, with a pre-comp team running over winter months for athletes building toward competition readiness. Recreational skill levels are named Ruby (ages 6+), Topaz (ages 4-5), and Amethyst (advanced), with placement guidance available via email for families unsure of the right starting level. Open gym runs most Sundays, giving prospective families a no-commitment way to see if their child enjoys the program before enrolling.
THE GYM
The Aberdeen Gymnastics Association facility at 4745 6th Avenue SE is equipped for recreational and competitive gymnastics with the full range of women’s and boys apparatus. The gym is only open during class times — the best way to reach AGA is through email at aberdeengymnastics@gmail.com or Facebook messaging, both of which are monitored regularly with prompt responses. Open gym runs most Sundays for prospective families who want to try the gym before committing to enrollment.
PROGRAMS
Recreational Classes (Ruby, Topaz, Amethyst)
AGA’s leveled recreational curriculum includes Topaz for ages 4 to 5, Ruby for ages 6 and up with no prior gymnastics experience, and Amethyst for athletes who have progressed to working on walkovers, beam turns, good cartwheel and round-off form, and bar mounts. Boys-only Onyx class and camp participation across all programs ensure Aberdeen’s male gymnasts have a dedicated space in the program.
Competitive Team and Pre-Comp
The competitive team competes within the USAG upper Midwest structure with a three-plus year track record of growing team competition. A pre-comp team over winter months develops athletes building toward competition readiness in the upcoming season.
